Chinese New Year (Guonian 過年) is the most special time of year in Taiwan!
The government holiday starts on New Year's Eve (2/17) and continues for six days (2/23).
During this time, missionaries' calendars are filled with members hosting them for lunch as well as dinner. Some will cook lavish meals with traditional delicacies. Others will treat to nice restaurants or all-you-can-eat buffets. It is very easy to gain several pounds over this holiday!
A sweet sister and friend of ours invited all of the missionaries in the local ward, as well as the office missionaries, to dine at Cafe Grazie in the Chung Yo mall across the street from the mission office:
Sadly, one of our office couples got stuck in traffic and didn't make it:(
Our sweet sister didn't feel appetizers, soups, salads, six pizzas and two pastas, drinks & desserts were enough for these elders, so she ordered two platters of grilled steak and eggs on top of it all.
They loved it!
Tropical fruit, mixed berry, banana, strawberry, kiwi apple, or chocolate? My favorite was banana!
What flavor sundae? Or...
Brownies and ice cream? Creme brûlée (on top of the head)? Panna cotta?
Thank you to all our church members throughout the Chinese New Years season
for their generosity and kindness!
Happy Chinese New Years!
新年快樂!
